Introduction
Symbiosis Institute of Health Sciences (SIHS) is a proud member of the prestigious Symbiosis International Deemed University (SIDU). A Pioneer in the field of Health education, SIHS has conceptualized & implemented a group of professional up-gradation programmes meant to equip the healthcare professional with the appropriate tools in order to survive this age of fierce competition and specialization. Besides having excellent faculty for the didactic component, hands on practical training for all programmes is provided at leading tertiary care hospitals of the city. The SIHS encourages a symbiosis of thought, word and action of all such professionals who would address the all important issue of health in its totality. Achievements
Symbiosis Institute of Health Sciences (SIHS) has gained many laurels during the past years. To quote a few: SIHS has established a formal partnership with the Georgia State University (GSU), USA to promulgate co-operation between the institutions to promote education, research, intercultural competence and understanding. The Post Graduate Diploma in Emergency Medical Services (PGDEMS) programme is recognized by the Los Angeles Paramedic Training Institute, USA. The American Heart Association (AHA), USA has conferred upon the institute, the coveted title of an International Training Organization (ITO). It is also a recognized 'Chapter' of the International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) Organization, USA. This is recognized by the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), USA. The programme in fitness Management is in academic collaboration with the apex sports institute of the country, Sports Authority of India (SAI). As a constituent of the SIDU, SIHS is beneficiary of the various MOUs signed between SIDU & various national and international academic institutions.
Healthcare Facilities
Symbiosis Centre of Health Care (SCHC) is the in-house Health Care unit exclusive to the staff and students of the various institutes of Symbiosis. SCHC has a team of specialist doctors who conduct the compulsory annual check up. Out patient treatment is provided to the students by the medical officers of SCHC. The centre also arranges seminars & health education workshops.
Each student is insured under Medi - Claim and Road Traffic Accident Policy. A copy of the policy document is available with the Registrar / Office Superintendent. For further details regarding the benefits of the policy, the student should contact the SCHC.
Fitness Facilities
SCHC provides an in-house, modern, health and fitness centre with a view to facilitate a holistic development of mind and body for an all round development of our students at each Symbiosis campus. Training facilities for strength, endurance, flexibility and cardio vascular fitness including Yoga and Meditation is provided in customized capsules suited to the unique requirements of the student population in confirmation with their academic curriculum.
The centre thus provides preventive, promotive and curative healthcare services with a view to ensure positive health in all members of the Symbiosis family.
Library
SIHS has a splendid learning resource centre with over 18,000 books, reports, journals, periodicals, CDs and video cassettes.
Computer Lab
The Computer Lab, with broadband connectivity to the Internet and Intranet, boasts of 120 Pentiums with exclusive lease lines.
Wi - Fi campus
Students at SIHS are privy to a Wi - Fi campus. The Wi - Fi campus enables the students to get on - line anywhere on campus without the hassle of wires and plug - ins. The campus, truly, is the high tech face of the new - age SIHS.
Classrooms
All lecture classrooms are well ventilated and equipped with the latest audiovisual facilities.
Auditorium
The in-house facilities include a 600 - seater modern auditorium and a modern conference hall located at Symbiosis Vishwabhavan.
Mess and Cafeteria
An all day Mess and Cafeteria ensures refreshments for busy minds.
Accommodation
For outstation students (Ladies & Gents) accommodation can be arranged at Symbiosis Hostel on first come first serve basis.

Bachelor of Science - Medical Technology:
The world over, there has been a paradigm shift from curative to preventive and promotive health care. As technology advances and better investigative and treatment options are introduced, the need for professionals equipped to handle newer diagnostic modalities are on the rise. The ever changing & ever expanding horizon of the health care sector demands formal training programmes in all its allied areas. The diagnostics sector, today is witnessing a tremendous growth in terms of volume and sophistication. With increasing advances and super specialization, the scope for tomorrow's technologists does not remain limited to just routine tests. Advanced complex instrumentation & equipment require technocrats not only to operate but also to care & maintain them as well. These experts have to possess a strong scientific foundation & be able to perform at a much higher level than the traditionally trained technicians of the past.
India's healthcare sector has made impressive strides in recent years. It has transformed to a $ 17 billion industry and is surging ahead with an annual growth rate of 13 percent per annum. Today it has enhanced its dimensions with new concepts like health tourism flourishing within this industry at the growth rate of 15 percent per annum, expected to rake in over $ 2 billion as additional revenue by 2012. With corporate showing keen interest to set up large healthcare facilities across the countries, equipped with state-of-the-art technologies and expertise to back, this sector is poised to grow even further thereby creating a phenomenal demand for skilled Medical Technologists in India.
Specializations:
The programme offers specializations in the following areas,
Cardiac Care Technology: : The Cardiac Care Technologist is responsible for direct and indirect patient care, haemo-dynamic monitoring, equipment set up and operation. They assist the physician during cardiac procedures and assume responsibility for completion of other cardiac lab functions as assigned.
Respiratory Therapy: 1.The Respiratory Therapist is a key member of the medical team, specializing in diagnostics, treatments and procedures in the care of patients with respiratory problems. They evaluate, treat, and care for patients with breathing disorders.
Dialysis Technology: : Dialysis Technologists operate machines that remove waste and excess fluids from the blood of patients whose kidneys can no longer carry out those functions satisfactorily. The programme is designed to provide the student with comprehensive competencies necessary in the field of dialysis and the skills required for entry-level employments as a Dialysis technologist.
Imaging Sciences Technology: Imaging Sciences Technologists are health professionals who facilitate diagnosis and management through the creation of medical imaging using X-ray, ultrasound and magnetic resonance. They work in collaboration with radiologists and specialist medical practitioners to provide patients with a range of diagnostic examinations.
Clinical Lab. Technology: Clinical Lab. Technology is concerned with the analysis of biological specimens to support diagnosis and treatment of disease. The programme introduces students to Pathology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Histopathology, Immunology, Molecular Biology etc. which remain the mainstay in diagnosis.
Operation Theatre and Anesthesia Technology: The Operation Theatre and Anesthesia Technologist is responsible for direct and indirect patient care, equipment set up and operation procedures. They assist the surgeons during the procedures and assume responsibility for completion of other functions as assigned.
Medium of Instruction:
The medium of Instruction for all the courses shall be English.

Eligibility Criteria :
Std. XII Pass with any two of the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Mathematics OR equivalent as decided by competent authority.
Working Professionals:
For the candidates who have educational qualification and working experience in Cardiac Care / Respiratory Therapy / Dialysis Technology / Imaging Sciences / Clinical Lab. or Operation Theatre and Anesthesia Technology admissions will be given directly to 2nd year subject to approval of the the University.
