Introduction:
Constituent of Symbiosis International (Deemed University), Symbiosis Institute of Design creates an alcove to germinate your design thoughts to unleash your design skills on a prosperous dais.
This creative dais aims at creating experts who can with their creative impulse get intoxicated within the ecstasy of design finally to participate and contribute to the most vibrant and the competitive race of design.
The work ambience enables one to explore the authentic conventional skills and the ethnic non-conventional skills, with no compromise to lead ahead the rooted traditions of art & craft to grow with the contemporary world of design.
The tasks designed more as design schemes or ventures therein highly emphasizes to evaluate the students standard in pace with the day to day performances.

Infrastructure / Facilities:
Campus
SID is one of the largest design institutes in the country having built up area of more than 80,000 square feet built on three acres of land. The campus of Symbiosis Institute of Design at Viman Nagar houses state of the art design studios, laboratories, workshops, IT infrastructure, well furnished class rooms, library, exhibition areas, seminar hall, which will be ready to take on real life challenges. The campus also has ultra-modern auditorium and academic plaza for various activities including design shows. The total campus is Wi-Fi enabled.
Library
Having more than 4000 books related to design, graphics, advertising, film and video, animation, product, furniture, architecture, textile, pattern making, visual merchandising, illustration, jewellery etc., more than 26 national & international periodicals and 23 magazines related to computer, photography, fashion and general, as well as CDs on different subjects. Library has LIB-SUITE, DDC software for automation of library processes and online journal 'Future Material'. Library has inter-library loan facility and institutional membership with British Library.
Laboratory
The design studios are enhanced by the presence of the design minds who come together to mix their talents and design a creation greater than the sum of its parts. These dedicated learners work with full enthusiasm that reflects in the upshot of their design process. Classical Animation, Digital Animation, Photography, Graphic Design, Sketching & Drawing, Film Making, Editing & Sound Recording Studios, Usability Lab, Model making in Metal Working, Plastic, Wood and Clay Studios, Digital Simulation Studio, Material Store cum Library, Draping Studio, Garment Manufacturing, Pattern Making and Fashion CAD Labs are few areas our students found investing their perspirations stimulated by the inspirations of great designers in the Industry.
All the Computer Labs have computers complete with many of the specialized application software titles that design students need to be successful in their academic career. There are also high-quality color and black & white laser printers and scanners available.
Student Clubs
Creative minds grow with creative recreations.
At SID, our students have formed various group activities that facilitate their creative stimuli to actively contribute in various events to enhance their talents in the areas of Photography, Sports, Animation, Performing Arts, Film Making, Graphics, Trekking, etc. These activities also enable to maintain intercollegiate relationships that heighten their team spirit qualities.
Common Facilities
Auditorium / Conference Hall/s
Well equipped modern Auditorium and Academic Plaza for various activities including design shows is available in our campus. The amphitheatre provides ideal outdoor venue for dramatics, modeling, dance, musicals etc with the Campus buildings at the backdrop. We have an excellent 585 seat fully air-conditioned auditorium (AC-110 ton capacity; Wooden Stage-82'x22' with frontage-42'x22'; Movie Screen 16'x9') with state-of-the-art LCD Projector and sound system.
Hostel (Boys & Girls)
We have two hostels for girls 2 km away from the campus. Girls Hostel (MHADA) with 375 seats on three sharing basis and Girls Hostel, Sakore Nagar with 180 seats on twin sharing basis. Dining Hall, 24 hour hot water supply, Generator backup, 24 hour security and housekeeping as well as laundry services are provided at the hostels. Cable TV connections and refrigerators/ deepfreeze are also available as common facility. At Sakore Nagar Hostel, 30 deluxe rooms with AC, cable TV and fridge are also available. Girls Hostel (MHADA) is 2 km away from Campus and Girls Hostel Sakore Nagar is 200 meters away. A third hostel adjacent to Girls hostel (MHADA) is under construction and will be ready by June 2011. This hostel will accommodate 360 students on two sharing basis (including 50 Deluxe Rooms). Bus facility is also available for the Hostel students to come to the campus.
Canteen
A spacious mess (5000 Sq. Ft) with dining capacity of 500 is available at the basement of the campus. Breakfast, lunch and dinner at reasonable rate are provided to the students. Food is vegetarian. Weekly menu for the mess is finalized by the Campus Administrator based on inputs from students and displayed at the mess. The hygiene and sanitation and medical checkup of food handlers are also ensured by the Campus Administrator as per advice from Campus Medical Officer of Symbiosis Centre for Health Care.
Adjacent to the mess, there exits a Fresh Juice centre and Cafeteria (40 seats) which provides variety of snacks and beverages, at a very reasonable rate.

These programmes are aimed at creating professionals who can contribute to the highly dynamic and competitive world of design. The approach here is entirely project based. The institute puts high emphasis on evaluating the students on the basis of continuous performance and projects.
Foundation Programme
Foundation programme comprises of Semester 1 & 2, which is common for all disciplines of B. Des Programme.
Foundation is an ideal for students wishing to study Design related degrees at university, including Product Design, Communication Design, Fashion Design and Fashion Communication. The course is carefully designed to focus on the academic areas most useful to ones future study intentions.
Students learn how to develop basic know-how and skills making effective use of the sketchbook, explore recording methods, develop visual perception, acquire professional attitudes to set projects and show a critical, contextual and historical awareness in the areas of design.
Placement
Symbiosis Institute of Design has a Placement cell. This cell facilitates as a body to coordinate between the industry and the students. Pre-placement as well as placement work is arranged for the eligible students through this cell. So far the institute has facilitated the students to get placements in companies like Infosys, Autoline Industries Ltd, Cognizant Ltd, Whirlpool, Mudra Communications, etc. Students have also been absorbed by Small and Medium scale enterprises like Elephant Design, Fitch Design, Onio Design, Leaf Design, and several design corners as following.

Method of Instruction
Design is an intuition, an outcome of a subconscious thought that leads us to a deeper sense of knowing and offering four major streamlines as Communication Design, Product Design, Fashion Communication and Fashion Design in the form of four years Graduate Degree comprising of 8 Semesters.
Intuition is akin to an elongated insight that tells us we are on to something dynamic to face the competitive world of design.
Design also involves reason that assesses the problem and analyzes the possibilities for solution. It is the analytical process that relies on method and logic to assess, refine, and verify its various hypotheses. At SID, this reflects in the evaluation methods of the student's project based assignments on the basis of daily performances.

Design is rapidly going through a phase of change and innovation due to the increasing consumer demand of preferred utility and comfort. Product Design, Communication Design, Fashion Design and Fashion Communication, all these rewarding careers are generating opportunities in the profession galore being having several sectors which need highly skilled and innovative minded professionals. These areas in the industry having great demand, the career at this forte holds an immense scope and potential for skilled and talented individuals with innovative ideas and a creative thought process.
Design thought is iterative. Prototypical forms need to be constructed, assessed, and then reformulated to develop the understanding necessary for the next higher level of solution.
This career not only provides one with the satisfaction of seeing ideas manifested into shape and form, but rewards one with recognition.

Eligibility
Candidates must have passed 10+2 (any stream) or equivalent with minimum of 50% marks obtained in the final examination to be eligible for the above mentioned programmes.
The candidate should posses Creative Aptitude & Skills necessary to pursue Design Education as well as adoptability to the situations which the profession demands. One page write up stating your intention to take up design education should be attached along with your application.
Candidates with the relevant portfolio would be preferred.
