Symbiosis School for Liberal Arts is the first Liberal Arts College in India, with over a decade’s worth of experience in bringing innovation to education. The BA and BSc Liberal Arts Degrees offered at SSLA adapts the well-established international ideology of Liberal Arts education tailored to the Indian scenario. Through a multidisciplinary approach, students are equipped with the technical, academic and practical knowledge to excel at their future careers.

The Symbiosis School for Liberal Arts offers students the opportunity to study either a four-year full-time Bachelor of Arts (Liberal Arts Degree) or a Bachelor of Science (Liberal Arts Degree) programme spanning eight semesters. The liberal arts programme offers students a wide range of courses across all disciplines with the freedom to pick and choose major and minor areas of specialization from areas conventionally considered to be academically incompatible.

SSLA’s library is growing rapidly and contains books providing information and reference material in all the different disciplines in the programme. A well-equppied Reading Room provides access to the students to journals and magazines– both online and print. Additionally, students and staff have membership to the British Council Library and the library of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics. They also have access to the libraries of all the other institutes of Symbiosis.


Students have the opportunity to use the sports and fitness facilities available at the various Symbiosis Campuses around Pune. These include a fully equipped fitness gym and a swimming pool in addition to other shared sporting grounds and facilities. There is a fully equipped Symbiosis gym and health care centre at SSLA.


The SSLA campus is Wi-Fi enabled and students can access the Internet any time during college hours for educational purposes, research and communication

Computer Lab

The Computer Labs at SSLA are fully equipped with the latest hardware, LAN internet access, and printers.


Classes at SSLA usually require dyamic seating arrangement and therefore sports modular furniture. All Classrooms are equipped with LCD projectors and audio systems. We also have a Newsroom and Studio for students.


Limited hostel facility for girls is available on campus. Additionally, the institute provides a list of approved Paying Guest Accommodation and third party-hostels nearby.

Cafeteria and Mess

Within our campus, students have access to a full-fledged canteen/cafeteria. Most students staying on residence use the mess facility at the Symbiosis hostel. The canteen within the campus serves a variety of snacks, drinks and meals.


SSLA’s programme is modelled on internationally valued models, carefully adapted to suit Indian academic and Industry requirements. Our programme offers students a wide range of coursework with the freedom to choose Majors and Minors across disciplines. Unique combinations like Biology and Economics will help students excel in fields like Health Economics, Policy Making, Pharmacare etc.

Guided by this philosophy, SSLA offers students the opportunity to study a 4-year fulltime Bachelor of Arts (Liberal Arts Degree) or Bachelor of Science (Liberal Arts Degree) programme covered over eight semesters (i.e., 4 years).


Economics, Business Studies, Media Studies, Sociology, English, Psychology, Political Science & Public Policy, Anthropology, Philosophy or International Relations

Bachelor of SCIENCE (Liberal Arts): Biology, Mathematics & Statistics, or Computer Studies

Along with the student’s chosen field of Major and Minor, the programme includes compulsory courses dedicated to develop the student’s core competencies and a basket of electives to choose from.

Over the four years, students earn over 200+ credits with: 19 core (compulsory) courses + 8 general (electives) + 1 Minor specialization subject (6 papers) + 1 Major specialization subject (10 papers). The programme also builds in 1 research dissertation + 1 final year seminar paper + 1 internship + 1 community outreach programme.

This comprehensive approach to undergraduate education ensures that students not only specialize in their field of study, but garner additional skills in areas like research, interpersonal communication, analytical and critical skills, which will mould them into socially-conscious citizens who are successful in their respective fields.


a. Career cell

SSLA has a career cell to carry out programmes which will facilitate the easy progress of SSLA students into a career path of their choice. The Career Cell facilitates the internship, placements and higher education requirements of the students. It also conducts workshops and career-counselling sessions to help the students choose their major/minor areas of specialization.

b. Alumni

The alumni of SSLA are pursuing their Masters in prestigious universities in India and abroad. Some of our students are at – Australian National University, Johns Hopkins University, King’s College London, London School of Economics, Los Angeles Film School, National School of Journalism Bangalore, Indian Institute of Psychology and Research, OP Jindal Global University, Mumbai University.

A number of them have been placed in firms like Uber, Gateway House, The Times Group, Global Educations Solutions, Red Ice Film Productions, Teach for India, Mullen Lowe Lintas to name a few.Some of our Alumni have also set up their entrepreneurial ventures.


Students graduating 12th from National / State Board and Non Resident Indians (NRI) students appearing for their 12th examinations in India are eligible. Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET) is mandatory for all applicants. The sudents must have passed XII (10+2) from any branch with minimum 50% marks for the general category and 45% for students of SC and ST category.

Diploma holders of International Baccalaureate (IB) (IB Diploma Students with predicted scores also) may apply. Since the IB final exams clash with the SET exam dates, they will appear for a SET-like examination on the day of their PIWAT at SSLA. They will pay the SET registration fee as do other students.

The intake per academic year is 100, which is subject to reservation policies of SIU. The intake of International Students and Kashmiri Migrants is over and above the sanctioned intake, as per SIU policy.
